About Buddhist dancing Daikinis, 17th/18th century
A horizontal silk brocade panel woven with a row of six dancing Dakinis alternating with seven of the Eight Buddhist Emblems, each group supported on a lotus padma base and woven in red silk, while bordered above and below by double red lines. The background of gold wrapped thread.
The jar is missing in the series.
The six Dakinis display their energy by dancing, one foot remaining on the lotus base; one raised andwith hands holding an attribute for that particular figure. The figures wrapped in ribbons which fall inscrolls around them. The Buddhist Emblems are likewise raised above their lotus platform by means of a scroll, or leafy form, so that they appear lifted into the air.
