Brompton Design District

A new ceramic collection by Bethan Laura Wood with 1882 Ltd highlighting the importance of community and the role of design and making as an essential part of that.

The collection is focused on sharing -  sharing in terms of use as well as in terms of design and skill.  We believe that recent events have highlighted the importance of community and that design and making continues to be an essential part of that.  A lot has been spoken of loneliness and our belief is that people and community are intrinsic to make home, be it literal or metaphorical.  Bethan’s pieces will be enjoyed the most as objects when they are used in the environment of home and entertainment and without people the pieces, although beautiful objects, loose their meaning and without the people who design and make them, they simply don’t exist.

Presented as part of the Brompton Design District in the London Design Festival 2022

Brompton Design District

Brompton Design District

Initiated by South Kensington Estates, a company with a history woven into the fabric of the district for over 200 years, Brompton Design District was established in 2007 to foster a space where new design can flourish. The aim was to revitalise the heritage of the area as a place where people come together to share, enjoy and learn about design in its broadest sense; design, culture, fashion and food.

It is the leading District during the annual London Design Festival with a dedicated programme of temporary exhibitions. Brompton’s programme, curated by Jane Withers Studio, has combined pioneering and innovative contemporary exhibitions, set in an area of London known for its iconic, international design brands.

For the 2022 programme, exhibitions as part of Brompton Design District will highlight contemporary design under the theme ‘Make Yourself at Home’. Designers have been invited to reflect on the many meanings of the places we call home and the role of design in transforming these spaces.
