Following on from their July performance during London Art Week, the Philharmonia Orchestra will create four further concerts across the autumn. The first of these will respond to the theme of Queer Ecology with the Philharmonia performing Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence. The Russian composer's anguish at not being able to express his sexuality during his lifetime gave us some of the most expressive music in the classical repertoire. Jennifer Higdon composed Impressions in 2003 and this work is her response to the musical Impressionism of Debussy and Ravel, and the art of Monet and Seurat, full of light and colour.
Programme:
HIGDON - Impressions, Mvt II: Quiet Art (8')
TCHAIKOVSKY - Souvenir de Florence (34')
