Through his work Adam Shield opens up drawing and collage as a means of exploring interior worlds. His imagery encompasses references distilled from post-apocalyptic science fiction writing, dystopian dream projectors, seventeenth century alchemy and everyday encounters with political, societal and economic structures. In these works, the borders between the inner and outer worlds are blurred, drawing resonances between individual perspectives and wider structural conditions.
The third iteration of The Showroom Mural Commission forms an integral part of Amp Envelope and occupies The Showroom facade until July 2023. Shield’s recurring motif of a hand-printed grid wraps around The Showroom building as the framework for a new collaborative mural displaying imagery produced in a series of workshops including community groups and individuals from The Showroom neighbourhood and beyond.
