Canopy Collections

Canopy Collections return to Cromwell Place in January 2023 with A Portable Landscape, the first solo presentation in Europe of the Mexican artist duo Celeste (María Fernanda Camarena and Gabriel Rosas Alemán).

Canopy Collections are delighted to present Celeste, an artist duo from Mexico, for their first solo show in London. Entitled A Portable Landscape, the exhibition will bring together a selection of textile and copper works by María Fernanda Camarena and Gabriel Rosas Alemán, which have never before been shown in Europe. This exhibition seeks to bring the warmth and harmony of Celeste’s expansive practice to a new audience, a warmth that characterises their beloved home town of Tepotzotlán.

Hospitality is central to Celeste’s shared practice, which often materialises in the form of collaborative public projects. Employing a diverse range of materials and disciplines from sculpture to textiles, their work is characterised by a meeting of the pair’s individual aesthetic sensitivities. They call upon an abstract vocabulary of forms, inspired by the landscape, architecture and bodies both celestial and human.

Their inaugural exhibition took place in 2020 at the Zapopan Museum in Mexico. Recent solo shows include Tepetlapa at Pangée Pangée, Montreal and Manta de cielo at JO-HS, Mexico City. Forthcoming projects include solo presentations at The Austin Contemporary in Texas and a commission for Soho House in Mexico City.

Canopy Collections

Woking closely with both emerging and established artists, Canopy Collections has developed a dynamic programme of exhibitions and events that celebrates the importance of living with art while promoting a dialogue between different generations of artists. They represent a growing roster of emerging artists including Richard J. Butler, Daniel MacCarthy, Ellie MacGarry, Paulina Michnowska and Salomé Wu. They have also exhibited the work of more established artists such as David Batchelor, Charlotte Beaudry, Bruno Ollé, Laure Prouvost and Dan Rees.

In parallel to its exhibition programme, Canopy Collections has become one of the most curated online platforms where they champion transparency and accessibility for a new audience of art collectors. Since 2020, they have collaborated with international institutions, galleries, brands and private collectors to curate remarkable exhibitions in various settings, including Modernity Stockholm, Bowman Sculpture, The Van Gogh House, The Invisible Collection and The Club—Parcours Saint-Germain amongst others.
